Strap-On

If you're in a lesbian relationship and still want to experience penetration or your male partner is into pegging, a strap-on is a must-have in your sex toy collection. It's designed to imitate the appearance and the feel of having a penis. It consists of two parts: The strap-on harness and the harness-compatible dildo. All you need to do is wear the harness first, attach the dildo, then start pumping away! Whether you have a penis or not, you can freely use a strap-on.

What is a Strap-On?

Strap-on is a pleasure device that allows individuals to penetrate their partner with a dildo without using their hands. It's designed to emulate the appearance of a penis and the action of penetrative sex. It's usually used by lesbian couples, couples who are into pegging (the guy gets penetrated), and couples who are into double penetration.

It comes in two parts. First is the strap-on harness, usually made with nylon or leather. It's adjustable and is worn around the person's hips. It's structured with a ring-shaped adjuster in the middle, securing the dildo.

There are also some strap-on harnesses in which the dildo is already attached and has harnesses structured like boxers. The second part is the dildo. If you want a dildo that works with a strap-on harness, check the dildo's base; most strap-on dildos have a flat and round base, which means it can easily be inserted into the harness. But if you want to make sure, it's best to message the sex toy shop and ask them if it'll work with a harness. You can also get a strapless strap-on; the wearer needs to insert a small dildo in their vagina to keep the bigger dildo on their body.

Strap-ons work best for lesbian couples who are still interested in penetrative action. And if you and your partner are into pegging, wherein the male partner is being penetrated in the anus by their female partner, this pleasure tool is also a must-have. We've got a wide selection of strap-on sets, strap-on harnesses, and strap-on compatible dildos in the shop; just scroll up and add your picks to the cart!

Different Types of Strap-On

One of the common misconceptions about the strap-on is that it only comes in one form; a strappy harness that has an attached dildo to it. That's not the case, though, as strap-ons have multiple types. It's divided into strapped strap-ons and strapless strap-ons.

First is the strapped strap-on. This is the one you're most familiar with. It comes with a harness that could be adjustable straps, stretchable boxers, or leather-made panties. These harnesses can work with harness-compatible dongs. There are also strapped strap-ons that have non-removable dildos.

Second are the strapless strap-ons. This means that there are no harnesses needed. But you might be wondering... how will the dildo stay put? Well, strapless strap-ons come with two parts. First is the shaft meant for the receiver (one who will get penetrated), and the second is the shaft meant for the giver (the one who'll be penetrating). For the dildo to remain on the giver's body, they'll need to wear the smaller shaft in their vagina. Once positioned, they can now penetrate their partner's vagina or anus with the longer shaft.

Different Types of Strap-On

Standard Strap-On

This is the strap-on you're probably most familiar with. It consists of an adjustable harness made with leather or nylon and has an o-ring in the center. The dildo is usually removable, and the harness can also work with other harness-compatible dildos. It's the most versatile type of strap-on as it can work with all couples and body sizes. We also recommend this one if you're just starting out with this pleasure toy.

Standard Strap-On

Boxer/Brief/Panty Strap-On

This type is pretty similar to the standard type. The only difference is that instead of wearing adjustable straps, you'll be wearing a boxer, brief, or panties. It still has the same o-ring in the middle in which you'll insert the dildo. Some people prefer this type because it's more comfortable than the standard strap-on. However, the undies only come with standard sizes (small, medium, large) and are not body-size inclusive.

Strapped Double Strap-On

This type can have a strap-style or underwear-style harness. For this one, a small shaft is attached inside the harness. The wearer has to insert the small shaft in their vagina for extra g-spot stimulation. With this type, both the giver and receiver of the deed will experience pleasure, making it a win-win situation. However, if you don't like getting penetrated while pleasuring someone, opt for the previously mentioned types.

Strapped Double Strap-On

Hollow Strap-On

This works best for people with penises. This type comes with a strap-on and a hollow dildo. The guy can insert their penises into the dildo, which helps them have longer and extended erections. This is recommended for men with sexual dysfunction as it helps them keep up with their partners. If you're having trouble lasting longer in the bedroom or simply want to penetrate your partner deeply, check this one out.

Hollow Strap-On

Strapless Double Strap-On

This is similar to the strapped double strap-on, but it doesn't have a harness. It only has a small curved shaft that keeps the longer shaft on as long as you've inserted the curved shaft in your vagina. Most strapless double strap-ons have a vibrating function, amping up the sensations during the deed. However, we don't recommend this for a beginner as you might have more difficulty penetrating your partner than a standard strap-on.

How to Use a Strap-On?

The first thing you'll need to determine is which type of strap-on to get. After that, order a strap-on that fits your body. Once you receive the love toy in the mail, wear the harness and attach the dildo in the middle. If you're using the strapped strap-on, just wear the undies or put on the adjustable straps on your hips. If you're wearing a strapless type, insert the small shaft in your vagina to keep the sex toy in your body; use a water-based lubricant if you're having difficulty inserting it.

Once the dildo is perfectly attached to your body, ask your partner to get comfortable and open their legs wide. Apply water-based lubricant on the tip of the dildo and gently insert the dong into their vagina. Don't go all in and see how they react when the toy is inserted 1-2 inches in their vagina. If you're new to strap-on play, it's normal to feel weird with the whole thrusting and grinding; just make sure to constantly communicate with your partner to ensure that both parties feel comfortable with the deed. Clean the dildo and harness before and after the session.

How to Clean a Strap-On?

Check the material to ensure that you're cleaning it properly before cleaning the strap-on set, harness, and/or dildo. If the harness is made with nylon, you can clean it with mild soap and water. Meanwhile, don't submerge harnesses made with leather or synthetic leather in water; just spot clean, which means you'll need to wipe areas with stain spots with a damp towel and/or leather cleaner.

As for dildos, if they're removable, detach the dong from the harness and wash it with sex toy cleaner or water and mild soap. Wipe the excess water with a towel and let it air dry for a few minutes. After that, you can either use the toy or store them inside a satin or velvet pouch. Don't put the dildos in the same pouch to prevent cross-contamination. Store the pouches in a dry, cool, and secure spot, such as your closet.

If you're cleaning a vibrating strap-on, check the manual first to see if the toy is waterproof or not. If it is waterproof, check if it's IPX7. If it is, you can lightly submerge the strap-on dildo in water, but if it isn't, just rinse the love toy in running water; avoid the water reaching the charging port/battery compartment cover.

History of Strap-On

The oldest documented strap-on is from the Upper Paleolithic Period. There's also a wooden strap-on that was discovered in Japan. The concept of strap-on and pegging was also showcased in many ancient literature pieces, such as Greek writer Heroda's poetry and Roman writer Seneca's works. There are even sensual murals showing strap-on sex in ancient brothels and bathhouses in Pompeii, Italy. As of the 1990s, strap-ons are becoming popular with lesbian couples. It became associated with pegging by 1998, as sexologist Carol Queen and Good Vibrations launched "Bend Over Boyfriend," an erotic film series presenting pegging and encouraging couples to try it.
